Amidst the gloom and doom that is essay writing season, a small chink of light was presented to me in the form of an invitation to the launch party of TRingkets, an idea of, dare I say it, fabulous proportions. Textile students from the University of Manchester have created a Design Enterprise group that recycle and source jewels, trinkets and other quirky odds and ends, which they eventually turn into one of a kind, quirky and utterly wearable rings.
From statement pieces including gold knuckledusters and what I think may have been a bullet [fierce], to delicate flowers, vintage brooches and rings made of wrought gold leaves, TRingkets have created one-off, wearable and beautiful rings for everyone and every occasion. Even better, none of the rings cost over £10 and all are beautifully wrapped and presented, making them a perfect gift - and just in time for Christmas.
By the time we got to the launch party last Thursday at a local cocktail bar, the majority of the rings had sold out - although the housemates and I managed to grab a beautiful ring each - a sign, I think, of the great things to come for TRingkets in the future.
You can pick up a ring from TRingkets at the Vintage Fashion Show and Market at Bar 38 in Deansgate on the 30th of November. Alternatively, check out their website at tringkets.blogspot.com.
